Vestment Series
Drawn to rescuing traces of time on memory-filled papers, my mixed media sculptural collages are intended to reframe obsolete ephemera in a new light. Working in a multitude of media, layering & sculpting these papers, I breathe new life into old items, where emotional value and emotional dignity is repurposed & reinvested with new meaning & narratives.
Often in the form of clothing, my work is never intended as historical costume, but rather to serve as an intimate & familiar safe space into which the viewer brings forward their own memories. I am drawn to the implied gesture, the sense of movement and immediacy as though they were just worn, still warm.
This Vestment Collection features sculptural paper assemblages in the form of clothing, richly layered with torn texts, prayers, music, film fragments, historical documents, handwritten letters and broken bits of our treasured past infused with personal and collective memory. Each piece is exquisitely evocative, handcrafted to speak to each of us on a uniquely personal level, connecting with our multi-layered identities, transcending cultural, religion, history and geography.
Each original sculpture is mounted on a linen fabric stretched over an acid free foam board and a wooden stretcher frame.
A custom shadow box is then constructed from plexiglass, mounted over the entire frame and tastefully drilled from the sides to protect the work.
The wood stretcher behind is outfitted with heavy duty D strap hangers and comes with mounting hardware to make your life easy.
You just have to decide where to hang it!
Each piece is accompanied with artist biography to include with your home insurance
and a special kit to clean and properly care for the plexiglass frame.
I had a fine art gallery for 20 years and know that choosing and purchasing artworks can be challenging at the best of times.
Images on a website can be great, but I understand sometimes we need more than that to help make that final decision, right?
My art is so unusual, being dimensional, sculpted with papers and layered with meaning. They are best appreciated live as you move around the piece, so let's do just that!
