Architectural Office Space 15 photos

Designing the interior of an architectural office was an amazingly creative process! The client, an architectural firm specializing in bio-medical research facilities, welcomed an out of the box, edgy approach to express a Mid-Century Industrial vibe. This is an open concept studio with key areas planned for team collaboration, meetings, and break out sessions.
This was a great project to collaborate on!

The entry for this open planned office sets the tone. A meeting room open to the public atrium with a gallery wall showing the architectural firms projects provides window front advertising. Punchy lime green retro reception chairs punctuate this space.

The board room and partners' offices are tucked beneath the mezzanine which houses all computer servers. Simple, clean lines and retrained colour allows for certain areas of interest to pop. Along the right are a series of custom made barn doors of fluted glass which open to the board room.

This overview of the studio shows how an open planned concept requires careful attention to functional space planning, unified colour schemes and overall simplicity.

This studio is visible from a full length Southern facing window as well as the interior public atrium, so vantage points had to be considered from every angle.

2 partners offices, with custom designed plywood furniture, are separated by a small glass room with sliding barn doors and sheers. This is the the "Think Tank" where staff can retreat for a quiet conference or call.

The punch use of this blue carries thru both partners' offices and the board room, and references the vintage framed architectural blueprints. The use of baltic birch plywood with exposed edges distills design down to its cleanest elements.

The partners' offices are open to the studio, encouraging collaboration and team work. The wood decking on the underside of the mezzanine and plywood custom furniture is beautifully offset by the intense blue walls. There is a real visual pop in this space.

The large fluted glass barn doors open the board room to the studio. The custom board room table created from an old bowling alley is a real focal point and conversation piece. Obscured fluted glass was selected to allow full transference of natural light into the board room, without sacrificing any privacy while in the meeting.

This is the kitchen "collaboratory", a place where staff come to eat, meet and collaborate. The design is based on industrial bio fume hoods where research is conducted.
The stainless steel island and cabinetry pays reference to medical laboratories, while the custom retro eating counter made from a vintage bowling alley, personalizes the space.
