This piece visually explores what it means to be “spiritual”.  In Judaism, the concept of spirit is so encompassing that there are 3 different Hebrew words to describe various aspects of the spirit.These 3 words radiate from an illuminated centre.

Neshama (Hebrew: נשמה‎) = soul, spirit, mind, psyche, life.  It is the self, the "I" that inhabits the body and acts through it.

Ru'ach (Hebrew: רוח)=wind, wind, spirit, breeze, air, soul, mind, breath, emotional self and "personality.

Nefesh (Hebrew: נֶ֫פֶשׁ‎‎)= soul, mind, psyche, person, spirit, life, the soul as the engine of physical life

In this piece "Raised Spirit" the letters are reverse cut by hand from prints on fine art paper, and layered to rise up off the page as though floating upwards towards the heavens.  Visually, the viewer needs to be standing centered in front of the piece to fully read the words.  This is a metaphor meaning that one's spirit needs to be centred to fully appreciate this artwork.
